Brisbane’s balmy weather is perfect for alfresco dining. Its chefs also have access to some of the country’s freshest seafood, tropical fruits, vegetables, meats and organic produce.

City

Check out the numerous award-winning restaurants and cafes in the city, such as Gianni Vintage Cellar Bar Restaurant (www.giannisrestaurant.com), reputed for its blend of French, Californian and Spanish style cuisine.

Other excellent options in the area include Restaurant II (www.restaurant2.com.au), Urbane Restaurant & Bar, and Siggi’s at Stamford Plaza Brisbane (www.stamford.com.au).

There are also several top-notch restaurants on the city fringe, such as E’cco (www.eccobistro.com), Brisbane’s most highly awarded restaurant and a longstanding benchmark.

The glamorous Alchemy (www.alchemyrestaurant.com.au) offers fine European and French cuisine, with splendid views of Story Bridge.

There is also Eagle Street Pier, Queensland’s most regularly awarded restaurant strip.

South Bank

South Bank is one of Brisbane’s popular dining areas - day and night. It has more than 30 restaurants and cafes, with scenic views of the river and city skyline.

River Canteen (www.rivercanteen.com.au) is popular for its open and relaxed setting by the river, as well as its modern Australian food.

Those who prefer something exotic can try Ahmet’s (www.ahmets.com), which offers delicious Turkish fare, plus belly dancing every Friday and Saturday night.

Fortitude Valley

The Valley offers a range of exotic eateries, with everything from Asian to European and Middle Eastern cuisine.

Head to one of Brisbane’s best Italian restaurants Giardinetto (www.giardinetto.com.au), located on Brunswick Street.

The elegant Isis Brasserie (www.isisbrasserie.com.au) offers one of The Valley’s best fine dining options, with its award-winning European cuisine.

Another dining hot spot is Depot (www.thedepot.com.au), popular for its laidback atmosphere and delicious modern Australian fare.

If you have a sweet tooth, check out the funky dessert cafe Freestyle Tout (www.freestyletout.com.au), with its silky red cushions, colorful flowers and artworks.

If you are craving Asian food, you’ll be happy to know that Chinatown offers everything from Thai and Malaysian to Vietnamese and Japanese.

The long-established Golden Palace (www.thegoldenpalace.com.au) and King of King’s Seafood are both popular Chinese restaurants.

For traditional Thai food, visit Thai-Wi-Rat, which offers tasty fare at affordable prices.

Others

Portside Wharf, Brisbane’s newest precinct, features a number of good eateries such as Restaurant Manx (www.restaurantmanx.com), located in the new cruise ship terminal.

It offers modern European cuisine with Italian and French influence, and diners can opt for an intimate indoor setting or stunning alfresco dining with views of the river.

Over at the hip New Farm suburb, check out Anise (www.anise.com.au), which has a fabulous wine bar and even better French food.

Another suburb known for its excellent restaurants is Paddington. Visit Grappino (www.grappino.com.au) for a truly authentic Italian experience, or Montrachet (www.montrachet.com.au) for its delectable French cuisine.

If you’re looking for a native Australian dining experience, head to West End’s Tukka (www.tukkarestaurant.com.au), which focuses on quality Australian ingredients.

Wine

Visit Queensland’s largest and most awarded winery, complete with a fully operating vineyard, cellar door and restaurant.

Wine and dine at its highly acclaimed Restaurant Lurleen’s, amid lovely views of rolling vineyards, bushland and the surrounding bay. The restaurant has won several prestigious awards including ‘Australia’s Best Restaurant in a Winery’.
